DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN WELLINGTON
Today is an action packed day spent in Wellington, the “the world’s coolest little capital”. If you are coming from out of town we will arrange your transfer to the hostel where you will meet up with the others in the group and your tour leader. After checking into the hostel and getting to know each other we are heading into town. Your tour leader will take you to some of the nicest shopping areas in New Zealand – discover interesting little boutiques and cafes in Cuba Street, or great fashion shops on Lampton Quay. Don’t forget to visit the Bank Arcade for a range of specialist shops. Wellington is a very colourful place with many interesting things to do and see. You are sure to find that special New Zealand gift to take back home to your friends and family, or a great piece of jewellery or clothing for yourself. After shopping we will take the famous Cable Car from Lampton Quay to a vantage point for a breathtaking view over the city and the harbour. The Carter Observatory is one of the must-sees in Wellington and we will learn a lot about the stars and even watch an interesting planetarium show before we walk back down through the Botanic Gardens and back to the hostel.
In the evening you have the choice to visit Zealandia, the world’s first eco-sanctuary, where you can watch some of New Zealand’s rarest wildlife, for example the kiwi bird.
Zealandia Night Tour – NZ$38 (up to 17yrs) – NZ$79 (18+yrs)
DAY 2: WELLINGTON
In the morning, we will visit Te Papa, New Zealand’s fantastic National Museum. Even people who do not like museums much will love Te Papa, which takes you inside the New Zealand experience. It’s situated right on the water’s edge with 6 floors of great exhibitions, interactive experiences, such as an earthquake simulator as well as shops and cafes. Lots of fun and a great way to find out all about New Zealand, its natural environment, the people and the history of the country. After strolling back along the great waterfront you will have the chance to do one of the offered extra actitivies or have some free time to explore the city by yourselves. In the evening we will have a dinner out and might go to the movies at the Reading Cinema together.
Wellington Movie Tour, incl. Lord of the Rings and Weta – half day – NZ$45
Ultimate Movie Tour, incl. Lord of the Rings and Weta – full day – NZ$115
DAY 3: WELLINGTON – HOME
Our last morning is spent in Wellington for some more fun and adventures. We head out for a walk along Wellington’s beautiful waterfront followed by an inline skating activity, where we explore the waterfront, city square and parks on skates. After that you will have some free time before we return to the hostel in the early afternoon. If you did not get the chance to see Te Papa yesterday because you participated in a full day extra activity, now is the time for it. The tour ends at approximately 3-4pm in the city, from where we head to the airport. For those coming from Blenheim and Nelson we strongly recommend that you take the ferry to Picton – a great opportunity to experience the awesome Cook Straight crossing and the beautiful Marlborough Sounds.
