The Wellington Movie Tour

The Wellington Movie Tour

This is a very popular short tour of fun in Wellington that includes some of the most famous Lord of the Rings scenes and a visit to New Zealand’s movie-making centre.

We go for a walk in the trees where the “Hobbiton Woods” was all filmed. This includes where the very first day of filming Lord of the Rings was completed on October 11, 1999.
This is also where parts of Weathertop and Dunharrow Plateau was filmed.
We will show you where the production studios are situated and give you some idea as to what is happening inside.
Another big highlight for this tour is our 1-hour visit to the Weta Cave. The shop/museum opened by special fx company Weta Workshop displays many props and miniatures from the films they have been involved in over the years. You will also have the chance to enjoy their popular behind-the-scenes video before making any purchases if you choose.
Please note it is recommended a moderate to good level of fitness is recommended for this tour as we will be walking up and down slippery bush tracks.
The tracks are slippery in places so we recommend passengers wear suitable footwear as they feel necessary.
Don’t forget your camera and bring a bottle of water for drinking during the tour.

Departure: 02:30pm
Return: 06:30pm
