Itinerary

DAY 1: Auckland

Today we start our tour in Auckland, the biggest city of New Zealand. We explore the city centre and waterfront and you can already get an idea how you can spend the next few days. In the evening you’ll have the chance to go up the Skytower, a truly breathtaking experience with awesome views over Auckland at night.

DAY 2: Auckland

Explore the famous Auckland waterfront and use part of the day for some shopping – may it be along Queen Street, The Westfield Mall, Royal Oak Mall or the Strand Arcade – there are so many options to choose from! Or, if shopping is not oyur cup of tea, visit Kelly Tartlon’s Sea life Aquarium, with all the penguins, sharks, turtles and many more species to discover!

DAY 3: Auckland

Enjoy another leisurely day to explore Auckland. Continue your shopping spree or have a wander to Auckland’s very own Silo park. A fun waterfront location with heaps of food carts, often live entertainment as well as their very own exhibition space – Silo 6.

DAY 4: Auckland - Coromandel

Our journey continues to Whitianga, the main settlement of Mercury Bay, a great little seaside town with a deep-water harbour. The area, called Coromandel, is one of quite stunning beaches and bays and home to Hot Water Beach, so named because of the hot springs which surface on the sand two hours either side of low tide. If the tides allow, we will take a spade and dig our own hot pool.

DAY 5: Coromandel - Rotorua

Today our journey continues to Rotorua, famous for its thermal mud pools and Maori history and culture. In the evening you will have the opportunity to find out more about New Zealand’s indigenous people, the Maori, when we visit a traditional Pa (Maori village). You will hear about their history and learn about their culture. Traditions such as the Powhiri (formal welcome), the Haka (war dance) and a delicious Hangi (traditionally earthcooked Maori feast) will turn this evening into an unforgettable experience.

DAY 6: Rotorua

We will spend the whole day in Rotorua, known as the thermal wonderland of New Zealand. Rotorua sits on the shores of Lake Rotorua and is built over a geothermal hot spot. There are numerous natural vents, hot pools and other geothermal features in and around the city. Rotorua is also known as the adventure capital of the North Island: White Water Rafting, Skydiving, ZORBING, Luge… Rotorua offers something for every taste. Or if you want to take it a bit slower, go shopping in the Rotorua Central Mall and then relax, visit the Polynesian Spa to enjoy a good soak!

DAY 7: Rotorua - Wellington

We leave Rotorua to head south. We will stop to see the famous Huka Falls before the journey continues to Wellington. On our way, we might even be able to catch another glimpse of some of the volcanoes located in the central North Island. The Tongariro volcano still smokes, the ancestral fires still burn and the land lives on for all. Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu have all erupted in recent times. Having arrived in the “Coolest little capital in the world” we conclude the North Island part of our tour.

DAY 8: Wellington / Nelson - Kaikoura

Today we will take the ferry from Wellington to Picton. While sailing through Cook Strait you can enjoy stunning views of the Marlborough Sounds. Once arrived on the Te Wai pounamu- the South Island – we will continue our journey to Kaikoura! In this beautiful little coastal town you’ll have the chance to see dolphins, whales and fur seals!

DAY 9: Kaikoura - Christchurch

We leave Kaikoura in the morning to continue our journey down south along the East Coast. We stop in Christchurch – our destination for the day. You have the opportunity to do some shopping in New Zealand’s second-largest city and get an insight into this fascinating city, that has endured one of the biggest Earthquakes in New Zealand’s history – see how it reshaped the city and visit the old cathedral.

DAY 10: Christchurch - Dunedin

We journey on down the East Coast and today’s destination is Dunedin – one of the biggest student towns in New Zealand. Dunedin is named after the Scottish capital Edinburgh (in Gaelic Dun Eideann) and it invites with its stunning Edwardian and Victorian architecture. On our way to Dunedin we will stop at the famous Moeraki boulders – sphere-like rock formations on a beautiful beach. Once we arrive in Dunedin you have plenty of time to explore, may it be the iconic Railway station or one (or two 😊) of the many shopping malls right in the city.

DAY 11: Dunedin - Queenstown

Today is the day all you thrill-seekers and adrenalin-junkies have been longing for – we head off to the birthplace of bungy jumping. Queenstown is known as the adventure capital of New Zealand, if not the world.
Tonight, has a special treat in store for everyone. Before dinner we head along to the ‘Minus 5 Ice Bar’ for a non-alcoholic cocktail. The bar is made completely of ice, even your cocktail glasses. But you do not have to freeze, you will be given warm clothes and gloves, so you can enjoy your experience in comfort and marvel at the great ice sculptures at the bar.

DAY 12: Queenstown

Jump off a bridge, go skydiving or swing over a canyon – there’s nothing you can’t do (as long as you have permission from your parents of course). For the more faint-hearted there are stunning cruises to Milford Sound that are sure to inspire. Those of you that do not book any of the extra adventure activities have a chance to explore Queenstown. We will go for walk into town, do some sightseeing and shopping, and we will take the Gondola up Bob’s Peak to enjoy beautiful views of Lake Wakatipu and ride the Luge.

DAY 13: Queenstown - Lake Tekapo

In the morning we drive you to our destination for today: the picturesque turquoise colored Lake Tekapo and you’ll learn all about how the color came about. Dazzling by night, Lake Tekapo is the perfect spot for stargazing. Don’t forget to take a picture with the famous Church of the Good Shepherd in the background. Once in Tekapo we will visit the Tekapo springs with their 150-meter drop inflatable waterslide – so pack your togs 😊

DAY 14: Lake Tekapo - Hanmer Springs

We leave Lake Tekapo in the morning and continue our journey back up north to Hanmer Springs, one of the top spots for hot pools and thermal springs in New Zealand.

DAY 15: Hanmer Springs - Nelson - Home

Today we will complete our round-trip of the South Island and travel back to sunny Nelson. We hope you had a lovely time exploring the South Island and all its wonders with us! Have a safe journey home!
